Background
As part of decommissioning legacy systems, Orica needed to decommission its SAP EC compliance system. This system was an unsupported version of SAP EC (3.0) and DB2 (v10) housed on a Windows 2003 legacy server environment.
The objective of this project was to decommission the legacy applications and database, it’s infrastructure and licensing requirements, whilst still maintaining full access to the data for future reporting and compliance purposes. The data was migrated into a PaaS database service and a self-service user-friendly cloud-native application was developed, to support the customer’s ongoing reporting and business compliance audits within a stable and secure cloud environment.

- Minimize the requirement for ownership and support required by ICT.

The Solution
- Creation of modernised cloud-native application and reporting suite
- Enablement of Self Service Reporting & simplified user-friendly interface in the cloud.
- Migration of 10 years of emissions and compliance data from on-premise legacy database to PaaS database service.
The solution contained the following elements;
Analysis of complex SAP schema layouts and re-design for a non-proprietary PaaS solution with the significant transformation of schema objects.
Reprovisioning of compliance-based reports into industry-leading cloud analytics dashboards;
Processing and migration of complex large artifacts stored within the data set.
Redevelop Application user interface to visualize data based on new user workflow/processing requirements

Orica’s key objectives of creating cost-effective secure and reliable access to compliance data whilst decommissioning their SAP EC enterprise system and minimising the management and support requirements by their ICT team were met.
